KENNETH DEL VECCHIO
Critically Acclaimed Filmmaker & Bestselling Author,
Film Festival Chairman…and former Judge
“As usual, Mr. Del Vecchio was larger than life.”
-The New York Times
Often headlined as “Renaissance Man,” Kenneth Del Vecchio is a critically acclaimed filmmaker who has written, produced and directed over 15 feature films that star 50+ film and TV stars, including several Academy Award and Emmy winners and nominees. He has recent distribution deals with industry leaders such as ICAP Media & Moving Pictures, Universal’s Vivendi Entertainment, Millennium Entertainment, Anchor Bay, Take 2 Releasing/Palisades Tartan Films, and E-1 Entertainment. Mr. Del Vecchio is founder and chairman of one of the world’s largest film festivals, Hoboken International Film Festival. He also is the author of some of the nation’s most renowned legal books, including a series of criminal codebooks published by Prentice Hall and ALM. A best-selling criminal suspense novelist, he has his most recent novel publication through Transit Publishing, with the work sold in all major chains. In addition, he is the owner of The Criminal Law Learning Center, where he has taught thousands of police officers and lawyers…And he is a former Judge, who also has tried over 400 cases as a practicing criminal attorney.
In 1995, Kenneth Del Vecchio became one of the youngest attorneys in state history to try and win a criminal jury trial when he successfully defended a wrongfully accused man against firearms charges in Newark, New Jersey. A year later, Mr. Del Vecchio had his first novel published and toured the East Coast on a book-signing tour. Selling more books than John Grisham did in his first novel release, Mr. Del Vecchio expanded to filmmaking in 1998. Since then, he has written, directed and produced over 15 feature films that star multiple Academy Award and Emmy winners and nominees. These critically acclaimed films, and others, also feature Mr. Del Vecchio in lead and supporting acting roles. In 2004, Prentice Hall, one of the world’s largest publishing companies (and the largest U.S. publisher of criminal justice books), published Kenneth Del Vecchio’s New Jersey Code of Criminal Justice, a 1300 page one-of-a-kind work that quickly became New Jersey’s bestselling legal book. Test Prep Guide to Accompany New Jersey Code of Criminal Justice came next, as it was released in 2006. New Jersey Law Journal Books/ALM, publisher of New Jersey’s leading weekly lawyer periodical and several top legal works, is now the publisher of these two books. In 2007, Prentice Hall released Code of Criminal Justice: A Practical Guide to the Penal Statutes (national version of his criminal codebook). Mr. Del Vecchio, founder of The Criminal Law Learning Center, also authored the New York Code of Criminal Justice, which was published by Prentice Hall in March 2008. Mr. Del Vecchio’s books can be found in any Barnes & Noble and all the major chains. During all this time, he has handled thousands of legal cases, serving as both a criminal defense attorney and prosecutor. Eventually, he became a judge - again being one of the youngest in the state –and, after leaving the bench, he has focused on his films, books and film festival, though leaving room to practice law in specific cases of interest and serve as an expert witness.
Not surprisingly, Kenneth Del Vecchio’s criminal codebooks have received outstanding critical reviews. In a New York Times article, Rutgers law professor George Thomas stated, “The book fills a void. No other book attempts to show how the statutes are used in practice. To be honest,” he added, “I’m jealous I didn’t come up with the idea myself.” The Jersey Journal wrote, “Prentice Hall’s New Jersey Code of Criminal Justice: A Practical Guide, written for police officers by attorney Kenneth Del Vecchio, seems to be a step, if not two, above other codebooks.” And the Gloucester County Times said “Del Vecchio’s latest, New Jersey Code of Criminal Justice: A Practical Guide, has had rave reviews for use of fiction to show how statutes apply in real-life scenarios.” New Jersey Cops called Mr. Del Vecchio’s book, “a groundbreaking book of criminal law.”
Mr. Del Vecchio’s movies have also been the subject of substantial critical acclaim. His 2011 theatrical release, An Affirmative Act – the first-ever courtroom drama about the legalization of gay marriage – has been the subject of rave reviews. Go Magazine wrote: "[An Affirmative Act] is a masterpiece of artistic commentary." Film Forum said, “An Affirmative Act is a very powerful film…keeps you on the edge of your seat...a must see.” And Echelon Magazine called the film "a riveting courtroom drama guaranteed to inflame the passions of the masses," adding, "the dark side of discrimination against gay marriage in America explodes on the screen in Renaissance Man Kenneth Del Vecchio's controversial new film, An Affirmative Act"…And now his most recent films, The Life Zone and The Great Fight, have been the subject of massive worldwide attention, with profiles on FOX, UPN, Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report”, NBC, The Los Angeles Times, Newsweek’s The Daily Beast and thousands more print and internet articles.
Kenneth Del Vecchio’s filmography includes The Great Fight, The Life Zone, An Affirmative Act, Fake, iMurders, Kinky Killers, The Grand Theft, O.B.A.M.
